A notebook with some perforated sheets is not necessarily suitable for a workshop that collects an exercise after every session. Confirm how many leaves detach, where they sit in the book and whether participants can hand in their work without losing notes they want to keep.

For learning teams, that is a different buying question from total page count. A substantial branded journal may have plenty of writing space but too few removable sheets for the course. Decide what leaves the room with the facilitator before choosing the notebook.

“Perforated” may describe only part of the notebook

LEUCHTTURM1917’s US hardcover notebook specification describes eight perforated, detachable sheets. Its Medium A5 format has 251 pages. The larger number is not the tear-out allowance: eight detachable leaves cannot supply twelve separately collected exercises, even if each leaf has writing on both sides.

By contrast, Rhodia’s A4 Wirebound Pad lists 80 sheets and micro-perforated sheets for removal. It illustrates a pad-style option to investigate when detachable work is the main task. Confirm the exact variant and finished tear-out dimensions rather than treating every notebook from either brand as the same construction.

These manufacturer examples were checked October 20, 2026. They explain specifications, not verified Brand Sauce stock or country availability. Confirm the quoted item, decoration and destination for an order; branded pricing remains quote-needed.

Choose one of three workshop formats

  • Keep everything: use a notebook for personal notes and exercises that remain with the participant. Do not require tear-out capacity if nothing is collected.
  • Hand in most of the work: consider a perforated pad with sufficient removable leaves. Check whether participants still need a separate place for notes they retain.
  • Keep notes, submit selected exercises: pair a lasting branded notebook with separate worksheets or exercise cards. A small detachable section can work instead, but only when its verified leaf count covers the submissions and your chosen reserve.

The third format avoids asking participants to tear a personal reflection or useful reference note out with an assignment. Tell them which pages are collected before they start writing. Do not put a “keep” activity on the reverse of a “hand in” sheet.

Worked example: twelve sessions, not twelve page sides

Illustrative planning example, not a customer result: a course has twelve sessions, each requiring one separately submitted sheet. The organizer deliberately adds two replacement sheets per participant. The requirement is 14 detachable leaves per person.

A notebook with eight detachable leaves is six short. Writing two exercises on opposite sides does not solve that shortage if they must be handed in at different sessions. The organizer could choose a pad with sufficient verified tear-out capacity, or keep the notebook and supply fourteen loose worksheets per person.

For a hypothetical class of 30, the loose-sheet option requires 30 × 14 = 420 worksheets. That is paper for the stated exercises and reserve, not a forecast of extra attendees. If a session needs two sheets or a participant must retain a copy, revise the brief before calculating quantities.

A five-point tear-out acceptance check

Use this proposed sample check before releasing the order. It is not a test we have performed on the named products.

  1. Locate and count: identify every detachable leaf in the exact sample. Record whether it is in a rear section or distributed through the notebook; do not assume a location from a photograph.
  2. Separate the tasks: mark which work is kept and which is collected. Check both sides of each planned submission sheet.
  3. Try normal removal: follow any maker instructions, remove a sample sheet and inspect the tear edge and neighboring pages. Confirm the remaining binding stays suitable for use.
  4. Check the detached size: measure the usable sheet after removal. Confirm it fits the exercise, collection folder and any scanning workflow without losing names or answers near the edge.
  5. Confirm the remaining notebook: check that the intended retained notes still have enough space after all planned removals. Require the replacement item to meet the same detachable-leaf brief.

Copyable approval line: SKU/edition ____; collected sheets per participant ____; reserve ____; verified detachable leaves ____; location in book ____; detached dimensions ____; retained-note space ____; sample checked by/date ____; notebook-only / pad / notebook-plus-worksheets ____.

Use our notebook buying guide for the wider paper, binding and branding decision. If the collected sheets need a take-home or hand-in folder, also check A4 and Letter folder fit. The goal is a kit that follows the exercise workflow, not a notebook that merely has a promising page count.
